I grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne and have lived in various parts of the world as diverse as the metropolitan delights of London and the third world environment of Fiji.
I grew up trying to sing like Robert Plant and write like Phil Lynott. I still draw inspiration from Thin Lizzy's music; they never forgot that the street wasn't just the thing between the hotel and the limo. They also wrote great singles as well as great album tracks.
I try to put the emphasis on the song, telling a story in the lyrics. I guess that is the influence of a certain irish bassist coming out again!
I like to write about real things, although the names and places may be obscured. I think its important to be sincere - I can't understand why the kids on my estate in Wigan see themselves as gangstas!
